eHealth and information services companies reported a third-quarter 2004 loss of $15.971 million on revenues of $1.236 billion, according to an EHI tally of 21 companies that have release results to date.

EMPIRE PILOTS ONLINE OFFICE VISITS
Empire Blue Cross Blue Shield, a unit of WellChoice (New York), announced that it would pilot a program in which physicians receive $25 for an online office visit, including $20 from the health plan and a $5 copay from the member.

CERNER PLANS EMR FOR DIABETIC KIDS
Cerner Corp. (Kansas City, MO) said it will spend up to $25 million over the next 10 years to provide an electronic medical record to every child in the U.S. with Type 1 diabetes.

WEBMD SETTLES LEASE-RELATED LAWSUIT FOR $23 MILLION
WebMD Corp. (Elmwood Park, NJ) has lowered its third-quarter earnings per share projection by $0.02, in part because it has agreed to pay $23 million to settle a lawsuit filed against the landlord of a property leased by the companys prior management in 2000 but never occupied.

QUOVADX OFFICIALLY NAMES HARVEY WAGNER CEO
Quovadx Inc. (Englewood, CO) has officially named Harvey Wagner president and chief executive. Wagner, 63, has served as acting president and chief executive since May, shortly after the company went into freefall on an avalanche of bad news, including inadequate sales results (EHI, May).

CAREFIRST ACCEPTS PROVIDER CLAIMS FROM PROXYMED
ProxyMed (Atlanta) said it expects to process more than 2 million electronic transactions in the first year of its connectivity agreement with CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield (Bethesda, MD).
