WEBMD SHAKES UP MANAGEMENT
Roger Holstein, chief executive of WebMD Corp., will return to his previous job as CEO of the company’s web site division, which the company may spin off in a separate initial public offering (EHI, August).

ARE HSAs ADMINISTRATIVE NIGHTMARES?
A patient walks into a physician’s office and says, “It hurts when I swipe my HSA card.” No, this isn’t the beginning of a bad joke. Health plans, providers and consumers are grappling with the potential administrative hassles that come with HSAs, according to an article in HSA Market News, sister publication to EHI.

HUMANA INCREASES ROLE OF AVAILITY
Humana Inc. (Louisville, KY) announced that it will ask all clearinghouses that submit electronic claims to the company to do so through Availity LLC (Jacksonville, FL).

MEDCO SAVES $3 PER ONLINE SCRIPT
Medco Health Solutions (Franklin Lakes, NJ), which expects to process more than 16 million claims through its web site in 2004, saves $3 in administrative costs for every prescription drug renewal it processes online, according to David Snow, chief executive.

MED3000 ACQUIRES CAROLINA HEALTH GROUP
Med3000 (Pittsburgh) has acquired Carolina Health Group (Charleston, SC), an application service provider in the physician practice management software market.

QUADRAMED TOUTS HIM SALES
QuadraMed Corp. (Reston, VA) said it had signed 36 contracts in the second quarter to provide health information management products to hospitals, including coding, compliance and record management products.

PROXYMED, eRX EXPAND JOINT E-SCRIPT NETWORK
Pharmacy chains Publix, Navarro’s Shopko and Meijer—all of which are clients of e-prescribing network company eRx Network (Alexandria, VA)—will now accept electronic prescriptions from the physician network of ProxyMed (Atlanta).

DRUGSTORE.COM LOWERS 3Q04 OUTLOOK
Citing lower than expected sales, Drugstore.com (Bellevue, WA) lowered its third-quarter 2004 financial revenue projection to between $83 million and $85 million and increased its net loss projection to between $5.4 million and $6.4 million.

SAN LUIS VALLEY HMO EXPANDS HEALTHTRIO PACT
San Luis Valley HMO (Alamosa, CO) will offer online services to members, providers, employers and brokers through HealthTrio (Nashville, TN).

RelayHealth (Emeryville, CA), which provides for secure online communications between patients and physicians, has named Jeff Bairstow chief operating officer.

CIGNA TAPS POST-N-TRACK FOR DIRECT E-CLAIMS
Cigna Corp. (Philadelphia) will utilize technology from Post-N-Track Corp. (Middletown, CT) that allows physicians to submit and track electronic claims directly over the Internet without the use of an intermediary, the companies said.

eHEALTH, INFO SERVICES STOCKS RISE 6%
eHealth and information services stocks rose 6% in the two weeks ended Sept. 17, according to a tally of 25 issues tracked by EHI.
