eHEALTH FIRMS POST 1Q05 PROFIT
Final figures from eHealth and healthcare information services companies show that 24 publicly traded companies had first-quarter 2005 net income of $44.61 million, compared to a net loss of $41.037 million in the same period a year earlier, according to an EHI tally.

WEBMD HEALTH HAS 1Q05 NET OF $6.5 MM
WebMD Health Holdings (New York), the unit of WebMD Corp. that will be spun off in an initial public offering, reported net income of $6.461 million on revenues of $134.148 million in 2004.

HEALTH NET DELAYS CLAIMS SYSTEM
Health Net (Woodland Hills, CA) has pushed back the schedule for its claims system conversion to 2008 as it shifts information technology resources to product and process enhancements that support commercial sales growth, improved medical management and Medicare expansion.

HUMANA TAPS ARGUS FOR PART D CLAIMS
Humana Inc. (Louisville, KY) said it would use pharmacy claims processing, reporting and benefits administration services from Argus Health Systems (Kansas City, MO) for Medicare Part D drug products.

ADAM 1Q05 NET DOUBLES TO $508,000
Adam Inc. (Atlanta) reported net income of $508,000 in the first-quarter of 2005, up 126% from the same period a year earlier.

DAOU TRIMS 1Q05 LOSS TO $576,000
Daou Systems Inc. (Exton, PA) reported a first-quarter 2005 net loss of $576,000, down from a loss of $1.275 million in the same period a year earlier.

QUOVADX 1Q05 NET LOSS DROPS TO $1.509 MILLION
Quovadx Inc. (Englewood, CO) reported a first-quarter 2005 net loss of $1.509 million, down considerably from a loss of $12.782 million in the same period a year earlier.

QUADRAMED REPORTS 1Q05 NET LOSS OF $3.695 MILLION
QuadraMed (Reston, VA) reported a first-quarter 2005 net loss of $3.695 million, compared to a loss of $4.541 million in the same period a year earlier.

ZIX REPORTS 1Q05 NET LOSS OF $9.572 MILLION
Zix Corp. (Dallas) reported a first-quarter 2005 net loss of $9.572 million, compared to a net loss of $10.938 million in the same period a year earlier.

HEALTHAXIS NAMES THOMPSON EVP
Healthaxis (Irving, TX) has named Lawrence Thompson executive vice president, overseeing sales and marketing, strategy and acquisitions. He was most recently with Benefit Systems Inc. (Fresno, CA).

WEBMD EXTENDS EDI CONTRACT WITH IDX FOR 2 YEARS
WebMD Corp. (Elmwood Park, NJ) has won a two-year contract extension to be the exclusive provider of EDI connectivity for physicians using IDX Corp.’s eCommerce Services gateway.

EBSCO BUYS HEALTHGATE PATIENT DATA ASSETS
Ebsco Publishing (Birmingham, AL) has acquired substantially all of the assets of the patient content repository business of HealthGate Data Corp. (Burlington, MA) for $8.1 million in cash. HealthGate will retain its evidence-based medical guidelines, Quality Architect and InteractiveIC products and services.

BCBS-TN TO EXPAND EMR STATE-WIDE
As expected, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Tennessee (Chattanooga, TN) will begin the roll out of a statewide electronic medical record, allowing healthcare providers to view information on a patient’s office visits, medication, lab and immunization claims from multiple sources through a secure web site.

eHEALTH, INFO SERVICES STOCKS RISE 3% IN 2 WEEKS
eHealth and information services stocks rose 3% in the two weeks ended May 27, according to a tally of 24 issues tracked by EHI.
