‘05 BCBS LIVES RISE 0.6% TO 25.381 MILLION
Fully funded HMO and POS lives among 18 leading Blue Cross Blue Shield companies rose 0.6% to 25.381 million as of Dec. 31, 2005.

‘05 HMO/POS LIVES DECLINE 0.6%
Fully funded HMO and POS enrollment among 22 leading managed care organizations declined 0.6% to 59.306 million as of Dec. 31, 2005, compared to the same period a year earlier.

CHANGES AFFECT ’07 MEDICARE RATE HIKES
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (Washington) made it official—announcing a 2007 Medicare Advantage rate hike of 6.5% (MHMR, Feb. 15).

ROWE EXERCISES $27 MILLION IN OPTIONS
John Rowe, M.D., chairman of Aetna Inc. (Harford, CT), exercised 900,000 stock options in 2005 with a realized value of $27.367 million, according to the company’s Proxy Statement filed with the Securities & Exchange Commission.

NC HMO PROFITS DROP 11.2% IN 2005
HMOs in North Carolina reported net income of $101.6 million in 2004, down 11.2%, on revenues of $2.064 billion, down 2.3%, according to an MHMR tally of state insurance department data.

OK HMOs POST 11.7% DECLINE IN NET INCOME IN 2005
HMOs in Oklahoma experienced an 11.7% decline in net income to $172.2 million on revenues of $1.933 billion, up 5.6%, in 2005, according to an MHMR analysis of insurance department data.

MANAGED CARE STOCKS RISE 2%
Managed care stocks rose 2% in the two weeks ended March 24, according to an MHMR tally of 13 issues.

MANAGED CARE SERVICES STOCKS RISE 3%
Managed care services stocks rose 3% in the two weeks ended March 24, according to an MHMR tally of 11 issues.
