DENTAL PLANS SEEK GAINS IN TIGHT MARKET
Managed dental companies are expected to cover 21.8 million DMO lives in 2008, up 0.5% from 21.7 million in 2007, according to a new report from Corporate Research Group titled Outlook for Specialty Health Benefits. Revenues will grow 3.9% to an estimated $3.865 billion.

AHIP ATTRACTS ATTENDEES, PROTESTERS
The 2008 annual meeting of America’s Health Insurance Plans (Washington) in San Francisco June 18-20 attracted more than 3600 attendees.

AMA RANKS PLANS ON CLAIMS PROCESSING
The American Medical Assn. (Chicago) has unveiled a report card that ranks health plans on claims processing in an effort to “hold health insurance companies accountable for making claims processing more cost-effective and transparent.”

MEDCO WINS COVENTRY MEDICARE PBM BUSINESS
Medco Health Solutions (Franklin Lakes, NJ) has won a multi-year contract effective Jan. 1, 2009 to provide pharmacy benefit management services to Coventry Inc. (Bethesda, MD) for its Medicare health plans covering 1 million members and more than $2 billion in annual drug spend. The PBM contract had previously been held by CVS Caremark, which still handles Coventry’s commercial business lines.
