WELLNESS, DM SAVINGS INCONCLUSIVE, MILLIMAN SAYS
“The adoption of population health-management approaches, particularly wellness and health promotion programs, has become mainstream, yet medical cost savings outcomes have been inconclusive,” according to the 2008 Milliman Medical Index from Milliman Inc. (Seattle, WA).

MAX ’09 HSA CONTRIBUTION: $3000 SINGLE, $5950 FAMILY
The maximum annual pretax contribution that can be made to an HSA in 2009 will be $3000 single, $5950 family, according to the U.S. Treasury Dept.

BCBS-MN HAS 280,000 HSA, HRA LIVES
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota (Eagan, MN), which began offering consumer-directed health plans in 2003, serves 280,000 members through its Options Blue HRA and HSA plans.

CIGNA HAS 580,000 HSA, HRA LIVES
Cigna Corp. (Philadelphia) has 580,000 consumer-directed healthcare enrollees, including 100,000 in HSA and 480,000 in HRA plans.

WINN-DIXIE OPENS CHECKOUT LANES TO HSA/FSA CARDS
Shoppers using HSA or FSA cards can now make qualified purchases of health and wellness items at any checkout counter in Winn-Dixie stores.

EMPLOYEES DON’T FULLY UNDERSTAND HSAs
“Employees don’t fully understand some of the basic healthcare alphabet,” such as FSAs, HSAs and HRAs, according to a telephone survey of 473 individuals by Guardian Life Insurance Co. of America (New York).

BCBS-FL HAS 150,000 HSA LIVES
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida (Jacksonville, FL) has a total of about 150,000 members in HSA plans, according to Bob Nay, director of financial services and convergence.

HORIZON BCBS-NJ HAS 32,400 HSA, HRA PLAN MEMBERS
Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Newark, NJ), which introduced consumer-directed health plans in 2006, has about 32,400 HRA and HSA plan members, according to Susan Duffy, product development consultant.
