23 LEADING BANKS HAVE 742,527 HSAs
Twenty-three leading banks had 742,527 health savings accounts with an estimated $811 million in total deposits as of March 31, 2006, according to a tally by HMN.

29% OF EMPLOYERS OFFER CDHPs
Twenty- nine percent of employers now offer HSAs or HRAs and another 33% plan to do so in 2007, according to a survey of 585 mid-sized and large companies conducted by Watson Wyatt Worldwide and the National Business Group on Health. Last year, 13% of employers offered these types of plans and only 7% did in 2004.

AETNA HAS 614,000 CDHP LIVES
Aetna Inc. (Harford, CT) reported that it had 614,000 consumer-directed healthcare lives in its HealthFund family of HRA and HSA-compatible high deductible health plans as of March 31, 2006, up 36% from year-end 2005.

CIGNA EXPANDS HRA AVAILABILITY TO SMALLER GROUPS
Cigna says it’s expanding the availability of its Cigna Choice Fund HRA plans to businesses with 51-200 employees in Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida.

GHI PICKS ASI TO MANAGE NEW CONSUMER-DIRECTED PLAN
Group Health Incorporated (GHI), a New York health insurer with 2.6 million members, says it’s working with ASI (Amisys Synertech Inc.—Rockville, MD) to develop a new HSA product.

AETNA TO ALLOW ONLINE ACCESS TO CLAIMS INFO
Aetna says its members now can download their claims information to their personal computer via Aetna Navigator, Aetna's password-protected member Web site, enabling them to manage the information in a data file or spreadsheet.

OHIO MOVES TOWARD HSAs
The Ohio State Medical Association endorsed HSAs before the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee on March 23 in support of a bill that would require the state to offer such accounts as an option to employees.
