UNITED HIT BY HDHP MEDICAL COSTS
UnitedHealth Group (Minnetonka, MN) learned a hard lesson about medical costs associated with high deductible health plansnamely, that costs soar in December when members rush to have treatments and procedures before the deductible resets for the next year.

8 MN PLANS HAVE 243,205 HRA, HSA LIVES
Minnesotas eight not-for-profit health plans had a total of 243,205 members in HSA and HRA plans in 2005, up 50% from 2005, according to the Minnesota Council of Health Plans (St. Paul, MN).

Metavante Corp. (Milwaukee) said it has nearly 3 million debit cards in the market for HSAs and FSAs, compared to 1.5 million in 2005, which the company says makes it the most widely used benefits card in the nation.
